Volunteers Week - remarkable service to Suffolk |
||
|
National Volunteers Week 1 - 7 June
Suffolk Police volunteers certainly put the time in!
In 2025, 352 of them undertook more than 43,000 hours supporting Suffolk Constabulary in a variety of roles.
Police volunteers consist of Special Constables, Police Cadets and Police Staff Volunteers. Perhaps you would like to join them.
Mounted PSVs and our Local Police Volunteers continue to be the Constabulary’s ‘eyes and ears’ in Suffolk local communities, ensuring their communities see a visual presence and supporting them in linking with their local policing teams, while Special Constables are a uniformed presence supporting response and community policing teams across the county.
In 2025 31,000 hours were contributed from the Special Constables and a further 10,500 hours from the Police Support Volunteers.
The majority of Suffolk Specials support front-line response teams, as well as our community policing teams. In addition, there are opportunities for individuals to specialise in areas such as traffic and CID, as well as gaining specialist skills in response driving, missing persons and PSU to name a few.
Suffolk’s Police Cadets were heavily involved in various community projects in 2025, including Remembrance parades across the county, High Sheriff services, VJ Day Service, numerous crime prevention activities, Suffolk Show, VE Day at Horse Guards Parade, Woolpit Steam Rally, the Classic car show Kedington, Hadleigh Show, Test Purchasing Events, Rendlesham Fete, Beaver Scouts 999 day and the Motorcycle Show at Stonham Barns
Our Police Support Volunteers completed a variety of roles across the force, supporting back-office functions, including our PSV drivers who covered more than 13,000 miles in 2025, freeing up police officer time moving vehicles across the county to locations where they are needed.
Inspector Justin Siggins, Citizens in Policing lead said: “During this year’s Volunteers’ Week, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible volunteers. Giving time so generously is one of the most meaningful contributions anyone can make. Volunteering with the police is not only a way to give back; it’s a chance to grow personally and professionally. Our volunteers bring energy, insight, and compassion to everything they do, and we are incredibly grateful for all they do to keep Suffolk safe. Their efforts strengthen our service every day, and we hope their efforts can inspire others to join as a police volunteer or cadet.”
Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore said: “The contribution made by volunteers to policing in Suffolk is absolutely remarkable. Volunteers play a hugely important part in our policing family and help make our county a much safer place for us all to live, work, travel and invest. We are indebted to each and every one of them for their unstinting commitment and enthusiasm. Every volunteer offers something significant whether they are Special Constables, Police Support Volunteers, Cadets or one of the Independent Custody Visitors and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all personally for their invaluable support.”
